Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is the study of the unconscious that gives insight, and brings awareness to, the thoughts, patterns of behaviour, drives, desires and defence mechanisms, that inform and shape our relationships, and experiences, positively and negatively, we might not consciously be aware of.
Psychotherapy seeks to explore, understand, and unravel, the often hidden and enigmatic ways within which we can become stuck and unconsciously prohibited from deepening connections within ourselves, with others, and the world around us, that might make living more enjoyable, less haunted, and driven by troubling life experiences.
Quite often it is difficult to understand how we can come to feel, or maybe have always felt, emotionally and psychologically unwell, feeling trapped within the confines of our own internal world which can leave one feeling alienated and unseen, but, when navigated through with an analyst, through the familial, social, and cultural context within which we find ourselves located within, we can begin to make sense of how we have constructed a sense of self and whether or not our identifications, thoughts, beliefs and desires are in conflict preventing our hearts desires and peace and balance within.
Understanding our position within relational dynamics, and the wider social field, often brings a clearer picture of how we have come to shape dysfunctional beliefs, patterns and drives, that no longer serve us, which when brought to the surface, to the alchemy of conscious awareness, can be released in favour of new ways of thinking and being.
The therapeutic space offers a safe, non judgmental place, within which you are free to talk about whatever comes to mind. This can be something as simple as day-to-day issues, or more complex and unsettling challenges such as a mental health diagnosis or past/current/upcoming traumatic event. Maybe you are on a journey, an expedition, wanting to discover more of who you are, or more importantly who you are not, and would like to take that discovery in the form of an analytic encounter. Whatever it is you feel the need to speak of, psychotherapy offers a framework to assist you with self discovery to find inner peace, insight, and any clarity needed over the current challenges you might be facing.
I offer a calm and relaxed space, with a conversational, relational style, using a holistic lens, to help you find peace and balance within body, mind and soul.
